MES with an MCP Server: Ask ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot About Your Production

The planned MCP server connects SYMESTIC Cloud MES to the AI assistant your company already uses. Your production manager asks about OEE, downtime or a specific order in plain language. The answer comes from your MES data.

Demo: 30 minutes on your use case. Pilot program: for plants that already use an AI assistant.

How it works

Three steps from question to KPI

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants retrieve data from other systems. Anthropic released it in 2024, and OpenAI, Google and Microsoft support it. A dedicated SYMESTIC MCP server is planned for 2026.

1

You use your own assistant

Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot or Gemini, with the company account you already have. You pay for the language model through your existing subscription.

2

Your IT connects it to SYMESTIC

The planned MCP server runs in the SYMESTIC cloud. Nothing is installed on your computers or in the plant.

3

Your team asks in plain language

The assistant gets the finished KPI from the MES, with period and definition. The number in the chat matches the number on the dashboard.

Use cases

Shop-floor questions, answered from the MES

At launch, the planned MCP server reads OEE, downtime and order status. Quality and the shift log are planned for after the pilot.

OEE and KPIs

“How did OEE on Line 3 last week compare with the week before?”

Plant management, continuous improvement
Downtime

“What were the three biggest downtime reasons in October, and when did they occur?”

Production and shift supervisors
Orders

“Is order 4711 on schedule, and how many parts are still missing?”

Production planning
Qualityplanned after the pilot

“Which defect types caused the most scrap in the third quarter?”

Quality management
Shift handoverplanned after the pilot

“Summarize the night shift log and list the open items.”

Shift supervisors, foremen
Security and control

Read first, write only with approval

Read-only access

The planned MCP server reads data from the MES. It does not change orders, settings or machine values.

Write access from 2027, with confirmation

From 2027, the assistant is planned to suggest simple entries, such as a downtime reason. Nothing is executed until a person confirms.

Same permissions as in the MES

Through the assistant, each employee sees only what they are allowed to see in SYMESTIC. Every request is logged.

Data in the EU

Your MES data is stored in an EU region of Microsoft Azure, in a dedicated database for your company.

Your AI contract, your decision

You decide which AI provider to connect and on what terms. The server returns personal data only in aggregated form.

Control stays in the MES

Machine control, user management and data deletion remain in the MES itself.

Pilot program

Seeking pilot plants for the planned MCP server

SYMESTIC is launching the planned MCP server with selected plants. In the pilot, we test with you whether the assistant understands your terms, such as setup time or technical downtime, and how much time it saves on analyses and shift handovers.

Your plant is a good fit if

  • your company uses an AI assistant with a company account: Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot or Gemini
  • you analyze OEE or downtime regularly
  • you want to compare several lines or plants

We discuss terms and process in the first conversation.

Frequently asked questions about the planned MCP server

What is an MCP server?

An MCP server makes a system’s data available so that AI assistants can retrieve it via the Model Context Protocol. The SYMESTIC MCP server, planned for 2026, is intended to give Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Gemini read access to your MES data.

Does SYMESTIC have an MCP server?

SYMESTIC is preparing an MCP server for SYMESTIC Cloud MES. It is planned for 2026 and starts with a pilot program. Through it, AI assistants are intended to query OEE, downtime and order status with read-only access.

Which AI assistants can be connected?

Connections to Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Gemini are planned.

Do I need an additional AI license?

You use the assistant your company already licenses. You pay for the language model through your own subscription with Anthropic, OpenAI, Microsoft or Google.

Can the AI assistant change data in SYMESTIC?

At launch, the planned MCP server only reads. Write actions are planned from 2027, and a person must confirm each one first.

Where is my data stored?

Your MES data is stored in an EU region of Microsoft Azure, in a dedicated database for your company. When an employee asks via the assistant, the retrieved values go to your AI provider. You decide which provider and which contract you use.

Does the AI assistant calculate OEE itself?

The assistant gets the finished KPI from the MES, together with period and definition. The number in the chat is the same as on the dashboard.
